The Year 2 team is:
- Miss Sutcliffe - Year Leader
- Miss Hutt - Class 2H
- Miss Randall - Class 2R
- Miss Jenkins - Teaching Assistant

The children will have PE lessons on Tuesday and Friday, so please make sure PE kits are in school on those days.

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit; t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms/shorts and a jumper for when it gets colder, shoes and socks.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to the class teachers or Mis Sutcliffe, please contact the office to make an appointment.

Homework
Your child will be set Maths homework everyday on Google Classroom. Your child should have been given a username and password. If your child does not know their login details please ask their class teacher.
The children will either complete an activity on Mathshed or play TT Rockstars for at least 10mins.

Please support you child completing this work. Your child will also have spellings to learn each week.
Please read with your child each day and record this in their reading journal.
Maths

This term the children will be continuing to embed their understanding of Number and Place Value and develop their number facts fluency. They will continue to practise adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers and recall of multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

They will develop their knowledge and understanding of different problem solving methods.
Reading

It is very important that your child reads every day. Please remember to sign your child’s book when you have listened to them read. Your child will be able to change their reading book weekly, once they have been able to demonstrate that they have understood what they have read. This enables the children the chance to increase their fluency and understanding of what they are reading.

The children can also take home another book of their choice from our new Year 2 Library. Please read this with your child as well.

This half term the children will have the opportunity to read and listen to lots of different stories. Below are some of the books they will be reading. Please encourage your child to tell you about these stories or read other books by the same author.

Science

This term, Year 2’s Science lessons will concentrate on the Living things and their Habitats. The children will learn about different types of habitat; a forest habitat, a woodland habitat, a forest and a microhabitat. We will also learn which animals are best suited for which habitat. The children will be able to draw on their knowledge of different regions of the world from our Geography learning which will also help them when we finish the year on a high on our school trip to Whipsnade zoo.

Art

In the Summer term, our featured sculpturist is Ruth Moilliet.  The children will be working to create sculptures in the style of Moilliet's work. To do this, they will be using recyclable materials to create their final sculpture design.
Geography

During the Summer term, Year 2 will be looking at hot and cold areas of the world. Our learning will help us to locate the equator on a globe and understand what the equator means for different climates. We will find out which places in the world are hot and cold and why. We will then be able to link our Science and our Geography learning to work out which animals would live in which areas of the world.

Our final Geography topic of the year is about our home town, High Wycombe and somewhere very different; Cape Town. In these lessons we will be leaning about the features of each town, whether these features are Human or Physical and comparing the two.

DT

In the Summer term, the children will be looking at picnic foods for their DT lessons. They will be learning and understanding what food items are suitable to take on a picnic as well as following a set of instructions to create their own fruit skewer.
