Welcome to Year 2
Welcome back for the summer term. Miss MacMillan, Miss McDonnell, Mrs Azeem and Mrs Parvin are looking forward to all the exciting things we have planned. This half term our topic is 'How does your garden grow' and the children will be finding out about plants and how to grow them.
During the first part of the term the children will be continuing with English and Maths as well as taking part in Science, PE, Computing, RE, Metacognition and Learning for Life lessons.
The children will have PE lessons on Wednesdays and Fridays so please make sure PE kits are in school on those days.
If you have any questions or would like to speak to the class teachers or Miss Sutcliffe, please contact the office to make an appointment. The class email addresses used during lockdown are no longer being used.
Please have a look at our welcome meeting information to find out more about Year 2.
This term the children will be expected to complete their maths homework on Google Classroom. The children have been taught how to access it and the work supports the learning in maths lessons. This needs to be completed and 'turned in' on a daily basis. Please see the information below for tips to use Google Classroom.
The children will continue to get paper copies of their spellings. Please remember to read with your child everyday and sign their journal. The children will be able to take home 2 books to read.
This term the children will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes, Position and direction and continuing their work on measuring. They will also be learning about efficient problem solving methods.
Please continue to practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and if you want an extra challenge the 3 and 4 times tables. The children will also need to know the related division facts.
Please see the below weblinks to games the children can play to develop their maths skills and knowledge.
This half term our topic is 'How does your garden grow?' The children will be reading lots of stories about plants and growing things. They will be retelling stories, writing recounts and descriptions.
See below for the books we will be reading. Can you read any of them at home? What other books about plants can you find to read?
This half term the children will be learning about plants. They will learn about what plants need to grow and how to look after plants. The children will have the opportunity to grow a range of plants to decorate their playground. Have a look at the knowledge organiser for more information.
The children have spent a day gardening and have planted lots of seeds. They have all planted 2 sunflowers. We are going to have a competition to see who can grow the tallest sunflower. Please look at the News page on the website for photos of our gardening day.
This half term the children will be learning about important people. They will find out about some of the important people in Christianity and Buddhism. Please look at the knowledge organiser for more information.
This half term the children will be learning about what a computer is and the important role each part plays in making a computer work. They will identify machines which use inputs around the school and look at the role which these machines play in modern life.
The children have been working hard and having fun being creative. They have created artwork in the style of Henri Rousseau and completed lots of activities based on our 'Deep Blue Sea' topic.
