Year 4 Iver Education Visit

1st June 2025

On Tuesday 17th June, Year 4 visited the Iver Education Centre, which provided a fantastic hands-on experience linked to our Science topic: Living Things and Their Habitats.

The children had an incredibly engaging day exploring many natural environments and habitats. A highlight for many of the children was the pond dipping, where they eagerly discovered a variety of small water dwelling animals including: newts, snails and various animal larvae – it was wonderful to see their excitement with each new find. Mr Oakley was very excited to see baby newts!

Another popular activity was animal home building. Using natural materials found in a wooded area, such as: logs, grass and stones, the children creatively constructed shelters and thoughtfully explained why their creations would be suitable for different animals. They also thoroughly enjoyed a mini-beast hunt, learning about the characteristics of various creatures and using a key to identify them.

This trip was a truly enjoyable experience for all the children and significantly enhanced our science learning by bringing outdoor experience back into the classroom. The children enjoyed finding the diverse animals and having the opportunity to explore a real outdoor environment.
