Welcome to Year 4

Welcome to Year 4. Our teaching team includes:

 Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure that your child has their correct PE kit in school and earrings are removed. 

 

 Homework is set daily and there is an agenda stuck into their Reading Journals. Reading must be completed daily. Your child will have two reading books, a library book of their choice and a book band book.

Maths: 
This half term we are learning about statistics and geometry.  The children will learn about the angles in different shapes and use position and direction on different grids.
 
Useful websites:
This half term we will be focusing on creating persuasive texts and narrative.  Children will apply their writing skills to create an engaging and detailed texts that hook and inform the reader.
 
Please use Spelling Shed to support your child's learning of spelling rules and patterns. 

Reading:
In Master Readers we are writing the text 'Beowulf'.  This is a narrative version of an Anglo-Saxon poem.
 
Geography:
This half term we are exploring mountains and learning about different climate zones around the world.
 
DT:
In DT we will be learning about 'Light-up boxes' before designing and creating our own.

PE:

PE will be every Wednesday and Thursday. We shall be playing Cricket and developing our aiming skills with Golf.

Computing:
In computing, we will developing our 'collaborative learning' skills.
 
Music:
Our theme this half term is 'Samba and carnival sounds'.  The children will learn to clap in the off-beat as well as play percussion instruments in time with the music.
