The year 1 team are:

The children will be having PE every Tuesday and Wednesday . Please ensure that PE kits are plain and appropriate for the time of year.

Homework
 
Your child is required to log onto Numbots everyday. Their username and password can be found in their blue homework diary. If they do not know their login details then please speak to their class teacher.

Your child will receive paper copies of the green and red words linked to their Phonics lesson. They should practise reading and spelling these.
 
Reading 

It is very important that your child reads everyday. Please remember to sign their homework diary when you have listened to them read. Your child will visit our Year 1 library to change their reading books weekly. We change reading books weekly so that they are able to demonstrate that they have understood what they have read. This also enables the them to increase their fluency and understanding.

Children take home two library books; one is linked to their phonics group and the other is for reading pleasure.

Class Reading
 
In class reading, we shall be reading and exploring the texts: Stick Man, The Gingerbread Man and The Crocodile who didn't like water.
Maths
 

This Term we will begin looking at numbers to ten and use them in addition and subtraction calculations.

Science

This half term's Science will focus on everyday materials, their properties and functions before moving onto plants, their parts and functions next half term.

 

PSHE and RE
 
In PSHE we are learning about our families and friends and what makes a good friend.
 
In RE, we will be learning about important people, such as Jesus and Moses, and learning about the Christmas story.

History and Geography

This half term's Geography is about weather patterns in the United Kingdom.

 

In History, next half term, we will be learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot..

PE

PE this half term is all about ball skills and gymnastics. Next half term we will be learning about dance.

Computing
 

During this half term we work on logging on and off a computer and finding out about how computers work.

Music
 

This half term’s Music will be exploring the pulse in music.

Art and DT
 
In Art, we will be creating sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

 

In DT, we will be designing and creating moving pictures.

Trips and Visitors
 
We are very excited to be visiting Wendover Woods this term and looking for the signs of seasonal change which we will learn about in science. We will also follow Stick Man's trail while there, which links to one of the stories we are reading this half term.
