Our first story map is a narrative called Kassim and the Greedy Dragon. It is warning tale and we will use it to learn how to create effective descriptions followed by writing instructions. In grammar, our focus will be ensuring that our sentences are punctuated correctly and we will be practising our spellings daily. We will also be practising our handwriting by beginning to join our letters.
Reading
Our first text this term is the very popular 'The Owl that was afraid of the Dark' by Jill Tomlinson. We will continue to practise our Master Readers skills, with particular emphasis on questioning that develops our comprehension.
We will begin the year looking at place value and starting to learn the column method for adding and subtracting through physical resources such as deans blocks and place value counters. We first look at adding 1s and 10s before moving onto 2-digit numbers.
